Dear Kathy, I am sad to learn that Frances has passed. How fortunate she was to have you and Shelly to cherish and care for her. As you might remember, I was privileged to make friends with her when she was your new pup (and gave her that big heavy toy that you probably never forgave me for).

Got here after getting a notification that you and Jenni Aloi had connected on Linkedin. The years do fly by, eh? Hope you are thriving in the UK.

All the best,
Eileen

I have been living in London since 2009, and I am still surprised at how many foxes I see and how close they come.
I hope you have seen squirrels too?

Two trips that I can recommend: Hadrian's Wall (http://andreasmoser.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/hadrians-wall/) and the Channel islands. They are the most beautiful place I have ever seen, maybe behind Yosemite: http://andreasmoser.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/i-discovered-paradise/

After 2 years here, I am ready to move on again, but I don't yet know where to.

Pub /restaurant food in the UK can vary a LOT. Never have high expectations when eating in a pub, never. There are some good ones, but trial and error and word-of-mouth are the only way to eventually find them! The restaurants I have eaten in have usually been very good, but being a Lake District local helped me know which ones to avoid!

If you get the chance to visit France, head for Brittany - the food there never disappointed me, and they know how to cook vegetables without turning them into colourless lumps!

"Doesn’t the UK’s health care system suck?"

As a Brit in Texas, I've found that there are plus points for both country's health care:-

It is mostly free in the UK, and all prescriptions of necessary meds are subsidised - I think its about £7.

In Texas, I get charged between $50 and $70 per visit, but with medicare, the prescription costs are around the $2.00 mark.

The big difference lies in "run of the mill" hospital care. Again it is free in the UK but if it is non life-threatening, eg a hip replacement, there can be a LONG wait.

I guess that in Texas, I'd not get a hip replacement until I had the $$, but at least emergency care is given freely.. then billed later, lol!
