My brother exited the mayor’s office and the first words out of his mouth were, “He’s a good-looking guy.” Yes, my brother has a man-crush on Gavin Newsom. Why? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the mayor just married me and Shelly, my partner of 17 years.
Rather than getting married on the balcony overlooking the rotunda at City Hall, which is what we did four years ago, Shelly thought it would be cool to get the guy that started it all to marry us. And she did. Because that’s what she does best.
And along with my brother, my parents, Shelly’s mom and sister, our good friends Renee and Cindy, and my pregnant cousin and her husband, we got married in the best place you could be married right now in California.
May the ignorant fools of this state open their eyes and vote No on the anti-marriage proposition in November. Here’s hoping too that this prop doesn’t make it to the ballot.
We’ve been married a few weeks now and things are still going great. Yes, third time’s the charm.
Here’s all the evidence you need to prove that: 1) Gavin was there, 2) we are short, and 3) this really did happen. Great photo by swert!

Congratulations!
Obama is attracting lots of young voters, and they’ll vote “no.”
By “young,” of course I mean people under the age of 65.

I am so happy for you and Shelly…again. Wow, 17 years! Only 33 more years until the 50 marker.
Please please please throw a party just like the one Homer and Ruth had. Oh the fancy cloths, the booze and the swell hair!
xoxo

Dang, someone is either really short or really tall — or both. Congratulations.

Let’s put it this way, my brother is 6’4″ and he thought Gavin was taller than he expected. Also, a quick note, I am closer to 5′ than to 6′ – in case you were wondering.

Dear Cousin Wendy,
Homer and Ruth had that party thrown for them, which means my 50th anniversary party would have to be thrown by someone other than me and Shelly.
Are you volunteering?

Hmmmm, perhaps Gavin Newsom could be the guest of honor 33 years from now…..and THEN let’s see if he’s still the good looking man of today.
Perhaps he has been taking those special Dick Clark capsules all of these years. God knows, I have and look at me. (Knock it off, Ladyfriend!)

I just got the URL to your blog. Big congrats and much, much happiness to you both. Vince and I just got back from City Hall ourselves, married this afternoon after nearly 15 years together. It feels wonderful, doesn’t it? We are all so lucky to to have the chance to marry. Everyone should have the opportunity. Fingers crossed for the right outcome(s) in November.
Kisses,
Alec + Vince
