A road trip! Shelly’s high school friend happened to be in France visiting with friends and on business and she invited us to join her for lunch in La Rochelle, a 90-minute drive from Vertou. It’s not everyday you get to see an old friend from Los Angeles and certainly not for lunch by the sea in France. We promised each other that in France we’d say yes more often than no to experiences that came our way.
We got a dog-sitter to check in on the dogs so we wouldn’t be pressured to rush back and took the car for a spin south to La Rochelle. We drove through older villages, saw a great deal of sunflower fields (which were outstanding), and had lunch in the city center of La Rochelle. Coincidently, Shelly’s given name is Rochelle, so another reason for us to say yes to our first road trip.
